We have less than two weeks left in 2019! Many of us are turning our attention to our 2020 plans, goals, and habits that need tweaking.
When it comes to Bible-reading, the best plans, goals, and habits are the ones we stick with. Reading God’s Word regularly, consistently, day after day, and year after year is the kind of Bible-reading that transforms us.
And the best plans also require just that—a bit of planning. We encourage you, even in the midst of the holiday craziness, to spend some time considering your 2020 Bible-reading plan.
- Where? Pick a cozy chair by a favorite window or a quiet room with the door shut. A place hidden away and secluded from the distractions and interruptions. A place you can go to open God’s Word and spend time with him. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should be intentional.
- When? For some folks, reading God’s Word is as habitual as brushing their teeth in the morning. And for others, finding a time is the trickiest part of the plan. You’ll want to be strategic here. For me, even though “after the kids are in bed” is the quietest time in my home, if you give me a comfy chair and a quiet room after 8pm, I’ll fall asleep!
- What? Having a plan for what to read ahead of time can help us actually open the Bible. The Holy Spirit very well may bring different passages of Scripture to mind and change our plans. But I’ve always found that at least having a starting point helps me stick with consistent Bible-reading. See more Bible-reading plans below.
- With who? We’re better together! Does sticking to a plan sound intimidating? Have you tried it before and failed? People can make an impossible plan possible. Grab a couple friends and commit to a plan together.
Your plan doesn’t have to be perfectly organized and executed, but having a plan in mind can make all the difference as you seek to meet with God every day.
